Have one person read the intro below:
We want to follow and enjoy Jesus and help others do the same! This is what it means to be a wholehearted disciple and it’s how we see Heaven come to earth as more and more people begin to live as wholehearted disciples. Our House Church gatherings are simple–they’re Jesus-Centered and they’re designed to be reproducible. That means we can take what we do here and do it with someone else so they can learn to follow and enjoy Jesus also.
Tonight, we are going to do our flow in the most basic way possible–choosing a Scripture and using Discovery Bible Study. DBS creates space for Jesus to speak to us through His Word so He can set the agenda for the night (Jesus-Centered). It’s also so simple anyone can lead others in learning how to follow Jesus through His Word (Reproducible).
For our Practice on these nights, we’ll focus on Talk to Others About Jesus and check-in with each other on our Oikos Map and Prayer-Care-Share. As we prioritize Jesus’s invitation to be included in what He’s doing in those around us, we will see people added to our number daily just like in Acts 2!
Get in groups of 3-4 to go through the Scripture + Practice together.
Scripture: Matthew 28:18-20
- What does this say? Summarize the passage (no added commentary).
- What does this say about God or people?
- What does this say to you personally? How will you respond?
Practice: Talk to Others About Jesus
Have one person read the blurb below:
Oikos is a Greek word that means “household.” It is used through the New Testament when someone and their “entire household was saved.” The word reminds us that the Gospel is not to stop with us but to expand to the people we’re connected to and even those who are connected to them!
Your “Oikos” is the people who are connected to you who you see on a regular basis who need to experience Jesus in a real way…and the people who are connected to them! Take a minute to draw your own Oikos map. Here is an example:
What should you do with this map? These are now the people you will pray for everyday! We call this Prayer-Care-Share. Start with praying for them and look for ways to practically care and serve them. As you do both of these things, God will often show you opportunities to share Jesus with them.
End with each person sharing their “I Will” statement for this week–a practical response to what Jesus was showing you tonight. This can come from either the Scripture or the Practice.
