Listen to Jesus for Freedom: Ungodly Beliefs

Take turns reading paragraphs of this Overview aloud:

Freedom Prayer is a ministry within our church that helps people experience remove roadblocks and experience greater connection with God. Freedom Prayer also provides a set of tools that can be used individually to facilitate and maintain greater personal freedom in our lives. These tools are simply another way we can Listen to Jesus and make ourselves available to God! He is always looking to set us free, reveal Himself to us in greater ways and to form the image of Jesus in us.

This guide is to help us to learn the practice of Listening to Jesus for Freedom to deal with Ungodly beliefs in our lives. We use the acronym WESUD to identify five different roadblocks in our connection with God. Ungodly Beliefs is the U. When dealing with roadblocks, we can follow the Fruit Loop (Fruit-Root-Boot-Loot-Scoot). You’ll see some of that language in the questions below, but this is just an introduction so you can start seeing an increase of freedom now! The more familiar you become with Freedom Prayer, the more you will understand these principles.

Scripture: Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32)

  1. What’s going on externally with the older brother? What actions or emotions? This is the Fruit–what’s coming out!
  2. Where are those actions and emotions coming from and why? What is this really about? This is the Root.
  3. What lies might he have been believing? The Root may have been an Ungodly Belief.
  4. What truth did the father want his son to know? This is the Boot. Clearing out what is not from God and replacing it with what is.

Practice: Listen to Jesus for Freedom

Take a moment to ask Jesus to bring to mind an experience you had this past week where you were moved out of life and peace. Remember the emotions that came with it. Listen to Jesus as you ask him these questions:

  1. What was going on here? What was this about?
  2. What lie might I have been believing?
  3. What truth do you want me to know?

With your group, take turns praying a prayer to renounce the lie God showed you and receive the truth. It could sound something like this:

“I renounce my agreement with the lie that _____________. I declare and agree with the truth that ___________.”

Agree with one another as each person prays.

Reminder: The last Sunday of each month is our Selah Sunday, where we pause from our Church-wide Sunday Gathering. :)
